Thoughts on standards and traditions

Change is inevitable. There is no stopping it. The only question is how you do you mange to cope with it. Today I had a discussion with my colleagues on the matter of 'working from home'. In their opinion, as more companies opt for a working from home approach, it is going to negatively affect the human psyche. The social contact that people get at the work places are very important for the mental health. The less/loss of it will lead to mental health problems. Also personal discussions with the colleagues is what sparks new ideas.  My view on the other hand is that in this day and age, it is a positive change for tech industries. It is also a starting point for many other changes. For sure bringing up that change during a global pandemic will have a negative impact. There is no place otherwise to socialize. It is not a sound opinion, but let me elaborate. The social system, including, but not limited to, the work environment, the school system, and the work week, were not se...

All Way-Natural (Director's Notes)

Image
So, an interesting thing happened in the past 2 weeks. I was planning to make a short film, just because I had some ideas in mind. But I had no push to start working on it. And then, Film Riot posted in their channel a One Minute short film competition. One of my ideas where perfect for one minute short. So decided I should try making it as fast as possible. So I made it and you can watch it above. Now, this post is meant to be a Director's Note. So I will start with a background story. One day, when I was strolling through the city, I saw a guy sitting on the street next to Alnatura. For those who don't know what Alnatura is, It is a special supermarket where products are supposed to be Bio or made in some sort nature friendly way. And the things when combined with the bio sign sells at a higher price than the normal supermarkets. And this guy was sitting near the shop and selling some handmade bouquets for 1 € or something like that. But no one was buying from him. ...

Thoughts on Consumerism

We buy things we don't need with money we don't have to impress people we don't like. Ah! Consumerism, the child of Capitalism and Money, by the birth of it marked the beginning of the end of history. In the famous book 'End of History and The Last Man' by Francis Fukuyama, he states that the history as we know it ended by the fall of the Berlin wall. But I believe the end of history started way back when consumerism was born in America. At the time of writing this blog, it has spread all over the world. We all live in a consumerist culture. We consume, a lot, more than we ever need, most of the times we don't even need. The growth of consumerism was provided by capitalism, the free market. It promotes competition among the industries and thereby giving the advantage to the consumers. The producers advertise their products in such a way that the consumer feels the need to buy it. When Steve Jobs come on stage and hold up his new Iphone in his hands, the c...

Thoughts on Money

If capitalism is a religion, Money is the God. Well I think of capitalism/communism or any other kind of political system as a Religion. It is a system of beliefs in which people believe in. If you are a capitalist, you believe in money and the power that it gives you. If you are a communist, you believe in the government to do their duty as you do yours. Yuval Noah Harari explains it well in his book 'Sapiens: A brief history of humankind'. Just like Scientology doesn't have a god in person and is still classified as a religion, you can classify the political systems also as a religion. Just like Buddhism, where there are no gods but you are still free to believe in other gods, a capitalist can be christian, Hindu or Muslim. Religions in its entirety is a topic for another day or probably years to discuss, however, today's thought is about Money. The new god in town. What is money? Money is not a physical thing, in the sense that it is not natural. Nature has n...
