We buy things we don't need with money we don't have to impress people we don't like. Ah! Consumerism, the child of Capitalism and Money, by the birth of it marked the beginning of the end of history. In the famous book 'End of History and The Last Man' by Francis Fukuyama, he states that the history as we know it ended by the fall of the Berlin wall. But I believe the end of history started way back when consumerism was born in America. At the time of writing this blog, it has spread all over the world. We all live in a consumerist culture. We consume, a lot, more than we ever need, most of the times we don't even need. The growth of consumerism was provided by capitalism, the free market. It promotes competition among the industries and thereby giving the advantage to the consumers. The producers advertise their products in such a way that the consumer feels the need to buy it. If capitalism is a religion, Money is the God. Well I think of capitalism/communism or any other kind of political system as a Religion. It is a system of beliefs in which people believe in. If you are a capitalist, you believe in money and the power that it gives you. If you are a communist, you believe in the government to do their duty as you do yours. Yuval Noah Harari explains it well in his book 'Sapiens: A brief history of humankind'. Just like Scientology doesn't have a god in person and is still classified as a religion, you can classify the political systems also as a religion. Just like Buddhism, where there are no gods but you are still free to believe in other gods, a capitalist can be christian, Hindu or Muslim.
